For our Finale project, you need to show proficiency with the following tasks:

Simple note entry
triplets, whole notes through 16th notes
dotted rhythms and rests
articulations (slurs, staccato, accents, etc.)
Add instruments from setup wizard
Work with different transpositions
Add tempo markings, key signature changes, clef changes,
time signature changes, repeats, double and final bars.
Adding text - titles, composer, etc.
Adding expressions and dynamics (crescendos, mf, etc.)
Adding lyrics
Export and format parts
Add music in different layers on a staff (chorale style)
Export music as a graphic into Microsoft Word
Export selection from music as a graphic and post on blog

Export your GarageBand composition to iTunes
Convert it to mp3 format
Upload your composition to Odeo (http://studio.odeo.com)
Copy Odeo flash code and post on your class blog.

When you post your composition to the blog, please share the following information:

How did you create your composition? What was your process?
What challenges did you run into when you were composing your piece?
If you had more time, what would you change about your composition (if anything)? Why?
What else would you like to know how to do in GarageBand?
What would you like input or feedback on from your classmates about your composition?

Over the labor day weekend, several cool blogs and articles came out...

NuevoBasso Blog - this blog is out of Chicago and written by a string bassist. His site is great and especially take some time to listen to his podcasts of his playing. He uses Odeo to create his podcasts; we'll be using the same software. His site is a very interesting model of what you could do with blogging as a musician.
Evan Tobias' Catalysts and Connections Blog - This blog is one that check regularly. Evan and his colleagues regularly post interesting topics related to music teaching and learning - especially with technology. Check it out.
NY Times article about Pandora.com - Last week I was interviewed by Jeff Leeds for this article, but they decided not to use any of my comments for it. Most likely, this is because I kept talking about the educational possibilities for Pandora and the article focuses on consumer experiences. However, this is a great article and Pandora.com is a very cool free tool to discover new music.

Create a personal blog here on Blogger for use throughout this course. Over the course of the next couple classes you will be adding to and personalizing your blog. Througout the course, all compositions and projects that you complete will be posted to your personal blog and shared with the rest of the class in that manner.
Go to the welcome post on the class blog and introduce yourself to the rest of the class using the comment feature on the blog. Tell us a bit about yourself including major, instrument/voice part, long-term aspirations, and something interesting about you or your life.

Welcome to MUS 204. This blog will serve as the main website for this course. I will regularly post blog topics and interesting links and files. Please check this page regularly for updates and assignments.

This term we will be doing a lot of cool projects (hopefully) here in the tech lab. We will be using technology to compose, arrange, notate, record, and to create a public presence for you as a musician or music educator.

Part of your first assignment is to add a comment to this post and write a short introduction of yourself to the rest of the class. After you have created your own blog here on Blogger, please return and introduce yourself as a comment to this post.
